Project Runway Recap

The new season of Project Runway premiered last night and it was all I thought it would be! Our fabulous Tim Gunn was back and whipping out old gems like “Make it work!” all the while providing semi-enthused praise for our new crop of designers. Then there was Heidi looking gorgeous as ever and just as sweetly mean as we love her. The first challenge proved to be setting the standard for the rest of the competition. They were designing a red carpet look for a red carpet event of their choice, i.e. VMA’s, Emmy’s, Oscars, you get the deal. One of my faves was definitely the winner Christopher with his super fun VMA dress. The textured bodice paired with the ruffle skirt was definitely something I’d wear for a night on the town. I will admit that it wasn’t the most original but definitely one of the most wearable.

I also adored Carol Hannah’s gown. It was so interesting with the ruffle detailing and the nude color was sexy without being overt.

As for the losers, Ari got kicked off for her hideous “disco soccer ball” design. While we’re on her, can I point out the elephant in the room? Seeing as how the guest judge was Lindsay Lohan I find it pretty hilarious that Ari bares a remarkable resemblance to LiLo’s love Samantha Ronson. So since designing clearly isn’t her calling, maybe she should find herself a young starlet to cling to!

Anyways, the show was great, and I especially love that their school is my alma mater FIDM. Takes me back to the good old days of patternmaking and sewing till all hours of the night. Oh and did you happen to catch the PR All-Stars challenge? My old love Daniel Vosovic won! I wasn’t entirely impressed with this collection but clearly Diane and Michael were so who am I to argue? ;-) Who were your faves? And who do YOU think is going to take this year’s prize??

The September Issue Trailer...

Mark your calendars!  For those of you lucky enough to live in NY you'll be able to check out the much anticipated film 'The September Issue' on August 28th.  For the rest of us, we'll have to wait for September 11th.  If you haven't already heard, The September Issue is a documentary that chronicles Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and her staff as they prepare the biggest issue of the year.  Fashion's bible, to say the least.  I, for one, have a few of my own September issues from years past that are just too beautiful to get rid of.  This is a behind the scenes look at what really goes down in the fashion publishing business.  The drama, the fabulousness, the power, all for us to finally get a glimpse of.  If you loved The Devil Wears Prada then surely you'll be loving the real deal.  Anna Wintour is THE final say in all things fashion.  If she likes you, you're in.  If she doesn't... good luck!  Here's the trailer to hold you over until the film finally comes out.  I can hardly wait!

Lindsay Lohan’s Style Misses the Mark

This morning my Inbox greeted me with something I usually look forward to, my StyleCaster daily email. I love it because it brings me a look of the day that is usually on trend and super hot. Generally something I use as inspiration for days when my brain is less than creative. Usually the looks are something I see as fashion forward and interesting... usually being the operative word. Today, however was a totally different story. I was provided with this gem of an outfit which unfortunately was clearly taken from a look that our little miss Lindsay Lohan wore this past week in Vegas. I generally am over her look of leggings and black but this is just a whole other ball park! Short shorts and an oversized half tee make for more hobo and cracked out than edgy and risky. I don’t know about you all but this one went straight into my trash bin. Here’s hoping tomorrow will bring something less trainwrecked.
